Reporters Without Borders is launching a new international campaign, ‘Beijing 2008’, to draw attention about the Chinese government’s refusal to allow greater freedom of expression and release the approximately 100 journalists and cyber-
dissidents currently detained there. Despite the fact there are only thirteen months to go before the opening of the Olympic Games, the Chinese government has not respected the commitment they made to improve human rights conditions when they
were awarded the games in 2001.
